The best way to know the differences between all four subcategories of content types on Hooks is to browse the website yourself and notice the similarities and differences among these content types. However, to assist you further, let’s explore some answers below;
The content types on Hooks fall into two broad categories — Videos and Sounds, each having two subcategories to make a total of four.
— Transitional Hooks: Transitional Hooks are very short videos, typically lasting just a few seconds, designed to grab viewers’ attention at the very beginning of a longer video or segment. Their purpose is to hook the audience immediately and encourage them to keep watching. Here is a good example of a Transitional Hook.
— Viral Video Memes: Viral Video Memes are short, funny, and highly relatable video clips that spread rapidly across social media platforms due to their entertainment value. These videos often feature catchy audio snippets that people can instantly connect with, making them highly engaging and easy to understand. Influencers like Aproko Doctor, Kagantech, and a host of other influencers use them worldwide. The main difference between Video Memes and Transitional Hooks is that Video Memes are used any time and multiple times within the video content sequence, while Transitional Hooks are used to begin a video content. Here is a good example of a Viral Video Meme.
Sound Bites: “Sound bites” refer to short, relatable audio clips or statements extracted from a larger piece of content, such as a movie, song, interview, or podcast. They are used to quickly emphasize a significant moment in a video content. On Hooks, there are two (2) types of Sound Bites. We have:
— Audio Hooks: These are sound bites that you can actually hear the words. e.g “Jesus is Lord!”, and “Na only you waka come?”. Another feature of audio hooks is that they have a longer duration than sound effects. When uploading Audio Hooks, you must include a caption that transliterate what is being said in that Audio hook. This is particularly important for search indexing. Here is a good example of an Audio Hook.
— Sound Effects: Sound effects are used for emphasis. E.g A Slap, or the sound of water drops. Sound effects are usually very difficult to name, but you must find a name to associate with the sound effect.
The biggest and most obvious difference between sound effects and Audio Hooks is that Audio Hooks would usually contain spoken words which could occur in any language, while sound effects have no words, nor are they associated with any language.

There are many ways to access the Content Editor which is needed to add a Transitional Hook.
Method 1: Notice the “+ New” menu/icon on the top bar? Hover your mouse on it and a drop-down will follow. On the ensuing dropdown, just click “Video Hook”.
Method 2: from the site’s menu, Go to “My Account”. Then under the “Toolbox” tab, click “Add a Video”.
Either of these two methods will lead you to the Editor. Here is what you should see:
But wait! Before you start using the editor, you might need to adjust some settings. You only need to do this once. Here is what you should do. Go to the editor menu by clicking the three dots, shown in 1. below. Then click Preferences.
You should see a popup modal with a list of toggles. Ensure that your toggles are set to correspond to the settings below.
Once you are sure you have done that, you can now close the modal and start working on adding content.
NOTE: You only need to do this once. So, you don’t have to worry about that ever again.
UPDATE:
We recently introduced Meme Country selection, so when adding new memes, you should also select the country or countries which that Meme relates mostly to. A meme that relates to the USA may not make sense or may not be popular among Nigerians, hence why we have that feature. It will also help with programatically showing content to audience, depending on what region they come from.
Before you start, make sure that you already have the video meme downloaded on your device. Only the video meme in focus should be added to Hooks, so if the meme is part of a larger video, find a way to extract only the duration of the meme.
Viral Hooks is a curated library of the world’s best transitional video hooks, video memes, and sound bites designed to help you go viral on social media. Hook your audience in seconds and keep them stuck with your content!
